After 50 Years Apart, Single Couple Remarries in Emotional Ceremony: ‘I Shed a number of Tears’
In 1968, Harold and Lillian Holland split after more than a decade of marriage. Having wedded young, the pair says they were too immature to get the union to go on – but their feelings for each other never went away.

“It was mental for me, We will be honest, ” Harold, 83, tells PEOPLE of the wedding, kept at Trinity Baptist Cathedral in their neighborhood of Lexington, Kentucky. “She stood up and I shed a few holes. It went back to the previous time. She was exquisite when I committed her for 17 years of age and she will be beautiful right now. ”
Meant for the wedding service, Holland put on a black suit which has a lavender tie up to match Barnes’ attire. The 78-year-old star of the wedding wore an extensive white and lavender attire with a coordinating jacket. The couple smiled in photos as they wed surrounded by family and friends.
Most of their children and grandchildren were present, beaming seeing that “grandpa wedded grandma again. ” The couple’s grandson Joshua, prelado of Level Ground Community Church in New Orleans, performed the ceremony.
“My favorite part was if he kissed me personally, ” Lillian gushes of Harold. “I’ve known him for a long time. We’ve had unique lives in among, but the ones old thoughts started coming back. The wedding was great. It had been simple and brief, but delicious. ”
The couple produced headlines last month when news of their then-impending nuptials first broke. They originally married in 1955 after appointment at a restaurant in Salt Riff, and had five children -Miriam, Timothy, Mark, Laura and Larry -before divorcing in 1968.
“That divorce was all my problem, ” Harold admits. “But she said, “I forgave you a long time ago. ‘ We have married aged I worked a lot. The lady stayed house with our five kids and I never noticed her make a complaint not one amount of time in my life. Right now we’re a lot older and we don’t know how much time it’s gonna be, but all of us said there was walk the very last mile jointly. ”
